This became the basis for the cover: a book as a stand-in for the body, bursting with pain, with longing, and with love in the pursuit of ultimate growth. <image:caption>A Daisy In Lily’s Valley is the 2024 debut of novelist B.A. Franc. It follows shy but ambitious Emiliana who longs to make her late father proud in her pursuit of baking despite an early Coeliac diagnosis and the stern eye of her controlling mother. With the help of her friends and the mysterious stranger across the hall, Emiliana begins to reimagine her notions of family, life, and her own self-identity.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This cover design was conceptualized as a doorway into Emiliana’s world and was based on the layout of my own father's bakery. The interior illustrations that head each chapter depict the treats that our heroine and friends craft and share over the course of the novel and reveal quaint details about the world of Lily's Valley as Emiliana's story unfolds. Cover and interior illustrations were rendered in gouache on paper.</image:caption>
